PS5 Official Hardware Details

According to Mark Cerny, who served as the lead system architect for the PS4, the new console isn’t just a spec-boosted upgrade of the PS4, like the PS4 Pro was. There’s entirely new hardware inside the PlayStation 5, including an eight-core CPU based on AMD’s third-gen Ryzen line built on the chip company’s latest 7nm Zen 2 process and a custom GPU based on AMD’s Radeon Navi hardware, which will bring ray-tracing graphics to a game console for the first time. The end result of all those hardware improvements: the PS5 will support 8K graphics, assuming you’ve got a TV that supports that kind of resolution.

Sony is also putting particular emphasis on 3D audio for the PlayStation 5. The new AMD chip apparently includes a custom unit just for that, which Sony hopes will lead to more immersive gaming both on TV speakers and headphones.
The other big change coming to the PlayStation 5 is the replacement of the hard drive with an SSD, which Sony promises will improve load time and gameplay beyond anything possible with a hard drive. (In a demo described by Wired, fast-traveling in Spider-Man for the PS4 took only 0.8 seconds on an early devkit for the PS5, compared to 15 seconds on a PS4.)
Other details that Sony revealed about the PS5 include the fact that it’ll be backwards compatible with existing PlayStation 4 games. Unlike the PS3 to PS4 transition, the PS4 and PS5 share similar architectures, making cross-generational support much easier. There will still be physical copies of games to buy, not just downloads (although Sony has yet to reveal if these will be Blu-ray discs or something more exotic). The company is also promising that when the PS5 does roll around, it’ll be a slower transition, with multiple new games releasing for both the PS4 and PS5 — at least at the start.
While Sony wouldn’t discuss future PSVR plans, like a next-gen headset to go along with the new console, the company confirmed that the existing PSVR headset will continue to work with the PlayStation 5.
For now, Sony seems to only be willing to talk broad strokes about hardware. There’s no word yet on things like games or media features, for example. It could be some time until we learn more. The PlayStation 5 likely won’t be making an appearance at E3 since Sony is sitting out the show this year.
There’s still no release date yet for the PS5. Cerny would only tell Wired that it won’t be out in 2019, but that developers already have access to devkits to develop games for it, which would make sense for a rumored 2020 launch.

The Hunt for Red October [Film Club Extra 07]

The world lost a legend of cinema recently with the passing of Sir Sean Connery, so to celebrate his life and career the film club will be watching one of his classics. I think it's a testament to his acting ability and range that, despite being best known for playing James Bond, none of his 007 films were nominated. Instead there were nominations for a wide range of roles from across the decades, with the winner being nominated by @Squirrel, the Cold War thriller The Hunt for Red October.
Directed by action movie legend John McTiernan, who also bought us Predator, Die Hard and The Last Action Hero, and based on a novel by Tom Clancy, Red October tells the story of a Russian Navy captain, played by Connery, who wants to defect to the west along with his brand new state of the art submarine. This is a tense action thriller with a great supporting cast including the likes of Alec Baldwin, Tim Curry, Sam Neill and James Earl Jones. I haven't seen this in about twenty years, but I do recall being gripped the entire run time, so I can't wait to revisit this.

As well as talk about the film, this would be a good place to share our favourite Connery moments. For me, alongside his performance as James Bond and his Oscar winning turn in The Untouchables ("if they put one of yours in the hospital, you put one of theirs in the morgue") my favourite Connery moment, and one of my favourite quotes in all of film history, is from Highlander where he says, in his usual iconic accent, "I'm not Spanish. I'm Egyptian."

The month of November in the film club belongs to the legendarily strange director David Lynch, our second taste of his filmography after Dune. However, the winning film for this month is a much more Lynchian work that truly represents his style and the themes that he returns to in a lot of his work. @djw180and @Con both nominated a trip into the unsettling and dreamy world of Mulholland Drive.
Mulholland Drive is a surreal neo-noir mystery that tells the tale of Betty, played by Naomi Watts, a young actress just arrived in LA and Rita, played by Laura Harring, who has become an amnesiac after a brutal car crash. When their paths cross life starts to get very weird for Betty, leading to an ending that people are still trying to interpret and make sense of nearly twenty years later. There are several other story threads in this film, some of which last only one scene and are never refenced again, but the main support comes from Justin Theroux who plays a director, Adam, who is being coerced into casting a woman he doesn't want in his film and whose wife is banging Billy Ray Cyrus.
This is a dense and enigmatic film that you won't make much sense of on the first, or even second viewing, but the clues are all there. Lynch isn't one to do something randomly, even though it seems like it sometimes. Everything he shows us has a meaning and he gives us all of the tools to try to work it out. This is the middle part of a loosely connected trilogy, Lost Highway and Inland Empire being the first and last chapters, so if you like this I highly recommend checking those out too, but this is arguably the best of the three and maybe the best film from one of the most unique and revered directors in film history.

The Duel of The Alamo Sea - a creators event

”A surreal stagnant oasis in the desert. The water might look clean but it can burn through a man's lower intestine in seconds.
The Alamo Sea, according to its official website, was created as the result of an accident. According to a Weazel News radio report, hipsters have begun moving to the Alamo Sea area. They were bored and did not follow the local lifestyle, so the hipsters decided to start using drugs.”
Creativity and addiction, the jewel of San Andreas has everything that makes one feel at home. So now its time for us to explore the area even further. We will create jobs near or on the Alamo Sea. The theme will be "duel", or dual if you prefer.. open to your interpretation. Examples could be, but not limited to, locking a race to two vehicles (maybe a rivalry like Vapid vs Declasse), or assigning each team a different but specific weapon in a deathmatch. Let your creativity flow and lets help each other testing when needed.
We will allow 3 weeks for the creative process. During this time we will create the jobs, each player creates one (1) job. Then we will host the jobs in one or more events depending numbers. Please have the jobs ready by Saturday November 14th.
You are of course welcome to join the event even if you have not created a job!
To sign up, please let us know what type of job you are going to create, and keep us updated if you need to change the plan 😄
All jobs should hold 30 players, but if you choose a job-type that does not allow 30 players that is fine as well. We will try to adjust and include it somehow when possible.

Van Society Midweek Motorsport
Every Wednesday at 20:00 UK time the Van Society holds a motorsport based event for its members and guests. The night usually begins with a meet up in free roam before moving on to a playlist of jobs and races.
Our events may include contact racing, performance testing, free roam games, themed race nights and championships. See below for details of our regular events…
Van Society Race Nights
Themed race nights featuring a specific class, manufacturer, vehicle, location or whatever else we can come up with.
Mystery Car
Find the hidden car in free roam with some clues and hints before buying it, pimpin’ it then racing it.
Top Gear Class War
Find the best in class as we test vehicles on speed, handling, braking, acceleration, value, style and more with each player in a different car from the same class.
Top Gear Reasonably Priced Car
We pick a reasonably priced car to purchase and race for the evening.
Top Gear Challenge
Take a vehicle (or 3) and put them through a series of challenges and races suited to that vehicle in free roam and in user created jobs. Dress to impress and make sure your car matches too.
Free Roam Events
We also occasionally abandon the races and spend the evening in free roam with Off Road, Impromptu Racing and Fugitive nights.

Come and joins us for some fun with FALL GUY FRIDAYS!!!
This will be a casual event that players can drop in and out of, just post below if you are interested so I can make sure you are on my friends list. If you are reading this and considering joining in, just sign up and come along.
If you are a noob, great, so am I. If you are a pro, great, I could use some advice!
Due to Fortnite being cross platform this event is open to PS4, XBOX, Switch and PC players.
The night will be split into 3 parts...
1. Creative Warm up
We will kick off in Creative on a custom map. This will be a warm up session we use whilst people arrive, just jump in and start killing people or just chill out in the Safe Zone.
2. Creative Maps
Created a new Island you want us to try? Maybe you have found a great new Island Code we can try out? Once we are all in we will play about on some new maps.
3. Battle Royale
We will end the night with some Battle Royale, either splitting into Squads or Duos or maybe some Zone wars.
*This event has no affiliation with other Fortnite Friday or Firday Night Fortnite competitions, it is just RSC members getting together for some fun & practice in Fortnite on a Friday.

We will be racing the Lurcher, Fränken Stange, Hearse & Rampant Rocket. But if you got a suggestion to add another Halloween vehicle do please place it in you signup. This doesn't mean that you are restricted to bringing these cars to the meet!

It's October, so it's time for a horror film, and for the second month in a row we're watching @djw180's pick, the 1990 psychological horror Jacob's Ladder.
Directed by Adrian Lyne, who also bought us Flashdance, Jacob's Ladder stars Tim Robbins as a Vietnam veteran who is haunted by the horrors of war as he tries to adjust to civilian life. This is a hallucinatory nightmare world of PTSD that Roger Ebert called a "thoroughly painful and depressing experience" and one that was "powerfully written, directed and acted." The supporting cast includes Elizabeth Peña, Danny Aiello, Jason Alexander and, in smaller roles, Kyle Gass from Tenacious D and Macaulay Culkin. Although it was not a huge hit when it was released, it has since become a cult classic and has influenced the likes of the Silent Hill videogame franchise and films like The Sixth Sense. Another Film Club film that I have yet to experience but am looking forward to doing so.

10 vs 10 (preliminary)
We will not know what jobs we are playing until we start:
We are likely to do this. This example is if we were to have 8 jobs, all different type of jobs.
1. I put together a list 10 jobs for each type of job. (“List 1”, “List 2” and so on..)
2. I show this list to no one.
3. On gameday other crew send me 8 numbers between 1 and 10, one number for each list.
4. At the same time I send them a picture of all 8 lists.
5. We then use their number to decide what job to use from each list.
For the lists I can use jobs from well known creators, but jobs that I have never played.

A 2 player team time trial, in custom sports. Teammates must use different vehicles please. As usual sign up now and we'll draw semi-random teams later. Recent winning pairs will be excluded, (Skorp & Lann CC219, Ally & Me CC217, Ally & Lann CC 215)
The track is Sharonstone Circuit (I assume the name was just beacuse it sounds a bit like Silverstone)
