I'll start with a rare day today in northern Scotland when it ain't raining!
......and the view from my old house in Sunderland (can't think why I moved!!). Yes, the neighbours across the road ALWAYS dried their underwear in the window. The plastic bag was a nice touch, it replaced the inner tube from the week before!

Our first film of 2023 is the winner of the latest once-a-decade Sight and Sound poll to determine the greatest film of all time, Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles by Chantal Akerman.
The film stars Delphine Seyrig as the titular Jeanne Dielman, a middle aged widow who lives a quiet, orderly life with her teenage son Sylvain (Jan Decorte), while also entertaining the occasional gentleman caller for some extra money. The film follows her over three days where you can watch her slowly unravel in the most subtle way.
This isn't a film that everyone will enjoy, being nearly three and a half hours long and consisting of minutes long static shots of Jeanne performing banal everyday tasks like cooking and cleaning, but if you give it a chance you'll find the most complete and compelling portrait of a woman ever committed to film.

Come and join us on Wednesday 28th of december at 20:00 UK Time on PS4* for The Favorites! Just turn up to the Christmas tree on Legion Square in your favorite eligible Muscle car where we will hopefully drive in the snow.
We will determine who has the best nicest car brought to the meet before we start races where each participant can select their car and track combination they like to race! We will all race the car the player selected against eachother. The person choosing the car will have to own the car and share it unless he picks a stock car to race
Pick whichever you think people should get a taste of or should suffer in! But beware.. You to have to drive your own car too!

I'm pretty sure that Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is one of, if not the most adapted literary work of all time, and this right here is the best of the bunch. Directed by Brian Henson, son of the legendary Jim Henson, The Muppet Christmas Carol stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge with a supporting cast that includes Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy as Bob and Emily Cratchitt, The Great Gonzo as Charles Dickens and Rizzo the Rat as himself.
Everyone knows this story, but if you've never seen this version before I think you'll be surprised at how faithful this is to the source material. Michael Caine is genuinely brilliant as Scrooge, playing it straight the whole time. This is an hilarious, emotional and festive experience with some great songs that truly puts you in the spirit of the season.

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you! For one night and one night only, this unconventional driving challenge returns for the first time in almost 2 years for its 5th installment.
Join me as I guide you across the wild and challenging terrain of Los Santos' East Coast, with a route that promises to take you and your vehicle to the extremes!
While no vehicles are outright banned (except flying / weaponised ones that are pretty obvious), I'd ask that you take something that is not going to be overpowered - in the spirit of the event and for your own enjoyment!
I really hope to see some old faces there as this promises to be a pretty nostalgic one!

Our fiftieth film for the film club is a cult classic and guilty pleasure, as per @omarcomin71's category nomination. That film is 1980's Flash Gordon, chosen by @djw180.
Sam J. Jones plays Flash, football star of the New York Jets who has to defend the Earth from Ming the Merciless (Max von Sydow). As well as Sydow there are a number of fantastic actors in supporting roles such as Topol, Timothy Dalton, and the shy and retiring Brian Blessed.
I have vague memories of seeing this as a child but I couldn't tell you a thing about it apart from the legendary soundtrack by Queen, so I can't wait to watch this again.

A team time trial in custom compacts and a chance to make some money. We're using a R* stunt track and they are currently on 2x$. The track is Splits – the one made for compacts. A couple of differences to our usual team-time trail rules. Firstly, rather than fastest lap this is the time for a 2 lap race. Secondly there is no restriction on which cars you and your team-mate can use, instead where the track splits into a yellow and red route one team-mate must always go yellow and the other always go red. (So like we did once with the muscle car stunt track, we'll see if one route is faster.)
Usual rules for pairings; recent winning pairs will be excluded, CC268 Bry & Skorp, CC266 Omar & Ramm, CC264 Me & Lann. Sign up now, we'll draw teams when we have enough. But get practising whilst stunt races are on 2x$.

Crew Challenge 269 – Jumping Junk
A solo challenge. Do any 3 different free-roam Junk Energy parachute jumps.
The winner is whoever has the most total left under the par times (“challenge time” on screen in-game) for the 3 jumps.
You must hit all checkpoints on each jump.
As the game does not give you a detailed time and score you need to save a short video of the end of each jump. Have it start a couple of seconds before you land so we can see the last time shown and stop it just after the result screen to confirm all checkpoints were hit. We will take the timings just from the in-game times, which is to the nearest second. I am not going to try and work it out more precisely than that.

Overwatch 2 releases tomorrow and it is free to play, so you have no excuses to not try it in the very least. It is a 5v5 multiplayer game with a diverse roster of 35 characters, each with unique styles and abilities, and maps spread across the globe. The game modes are all objective based where you have to do stuff like capture and defend points or escort payloads across the map. This is very unlike other FPS games in that you don't need just pure mechanical skill to win, with strategy, team synergy and ability management being incredibly important.
I love this game and it would be awesome to play with you guys some time 🙂

Our Halloween selection this year was nominated by our resident horror expert @Con, and that is Rosemary's Baby from 1968.
It stars Mia Farrow as Rosemary Woodhouse, a young pregnant woman moving into a new apartment with her husband Guy, played by director John Cassevetes. But she soon starts to suspect that her elderly neighbours may have a less than innocent interest in her baby.
Widely regarded as one of the great American horror films, it won several awards, including a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Ruth Gordan, who plays Rosemary's sinister neighbour Minnie. This is another classic horror film that I haven't seen yet, so I'm looking forward to getting nice and spooked while watching it, despite the director being a giant piece of sh*t.

Crew Challenge 267 – Death Matches

I was going try to do this with one of the new R* DMs, but even with all DMs on 2x$ getting enough randoms to join may be a problem. So the challenge is simply to get kills vs other players in a 10 minute (or shorter) DM (Free-for-all, team, vehicle all allowed). In fact I will allow any job vs other players were the final results screen shows your kills and deaths, so could be a LTS, adversary mode or King of the Hill. If it's a multi-round job then you just count your best round. For the score we need a screen shot of the results showing how many kills you made, most kills wins and in case of a tie how many deaths as well. No restrictions on equipment and perks. Results from jobs in playlists or with friends can count, just please do not get friends to give you easy kills.
This will run for 3 weeks as I'm on holiday in 2 weeks time.
Any R* PvP jobs that shows your kills & deaths on the final results screen

Come and join us on Wednesday 28th of September at 20:00 UK Time on PS5* for ZX! Just turn up to the parking lot of Mirror Park Tavern with your Vigero ZX.
We will determine who has the best ZX before we start a playlist to determine the tamer of the Torero ZX!

We're diving into the world of organised crime this month with @djw180's nomination of Brian De Palma's The Untouchables.
Based on a true story, this film stars Kevin Costner as by the book lawman Eliot Ness who is determined to bring down Al Capone (Robert De Niro) and his illegal bootlegging activities. He is helped by his crew of untouchables, so called because they can't be bribed, unlike most of the cops in Chicago. This group is made up of Charles Martin Smith, Andy Garcia, and, in an Oscar winning performance, Sean Connery.
Throw in a classic Ennio Morricone score (my favourite of his), and you have one classy flick. It's been a while since I've watched this, but this was always my favourite Costner film - even though I love Waterworld - and I can't wait to jump back into this world. Just don't p*ss off De Niro or he'll show you his batting technique.
