Smoke alarms

My son had a homework counting and testing the smoke alarms in the home.

We counted 10 working fine and two in need of new batteries.

Do you have any?

We have 4. 2 of them are battery and 2 are wire into the house electricity with battery backup

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

I have one. With only one bedroom and proper placement that's really all that's needed.

Good reminder to check if it's still working.

Two without batteries ?‍♂️ Ironic seeing as I’m one of the fire wardens at work. Will get them sorted this weekend.

One of the biggest causes of home fires other than smoking is overloaded electrical sockets. Make sure you don’t overload the extension cables! I counted 18 devices that needed a power supply in my room. Running those cables safely was a nightmare!

Have only one. It's mandatory here in France since 2010 or something.

Mine has a led that blinks when the battery is almost dead.

Same, but they've been without batteries for years now. Also have 12 things plugged into 2 sockets in my room ?

As long as you have them plugged into 2 6-way extensions it should be fine and don’t have them daisy chained.

Computer type equipment doesn’t usually have a high amp usage. It’s when you bring heating elements into the equation where the amps can start overloading the extensions. So your hair straighteners and hair dryers etc should be plugged directly into the mains.

Another big danger especially for those with south facing rooms is sunlight being magnified by objects next to windows. A friend of mine house caught fire because of something globe shaped made out of glass being in the window.

I always keep the curtains closed anyway because I don’t like seeing the outside world.
