zmurko 7,622
Robin Williams George Carlin Stephen Fry Hugh Laurie John Oliver Will Ferrell Sarah Silverman Kevin Hart Louis C.K. Ricky Gervais Jerry Seinfeld Some are pure stand-up comics, some are just clever-funny and some can just act funny, doesn't really matter, as long as I get a good laugh or they put a smile on my face and make me feel good with some intelligent (not necessary haha funny) humour. I've seen quite a good number of other stand-up comics few years ago, a few pretty good and funny, but I guess not enough to remember their names. 3 Quote S U N D A Y R A C I N G L E A G U E
Smurf 947
My problem with Amy Schumer is that she steals other comedians jokes constantly, I didn't know about her until that happened. It dampened my views about her right out the gate, though I really didn't watch her material outside a video showing the correlation of the jokes she rehashed. I can appreciate that. lol It's all related to the hate he got after writing Jerry Springer: The Opera His series Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle is on Netflix (in the U.K at least) and is well worth a watch if you appreciate dry dark humour and lots of repetition. Repetition is his thing, will repeat a phrase a couple dozen times in a row and it gets funnier each time.

Beez 5,091
Don Rickles just passed away today at 90. I always liked him. Bill Cosby. Probably very un-PC of me to choose him but as a kid I listened to his records to the point I could recite his bit word-for -word. In a case like this one has to separate the person from their art. There are many examples of this with athletes, actors, musicians, leaders, etc. Steve Martin Louis CK Adam Carolla Maybe not legendary. I think you used too strong a word there for the topic @smurf I like a lot of the comedians mentioned already but few I would call "legendary." I didn't choose Bill Cosby, not because of his rape accusations, but because of his bullshit about judging comics that use swear words to be funny. It's like, no Bill, I would hate to have all Rate G stand-up comics. That would suck. And true, Smurf did say Legendary. I'll go edit my list a bit. I picked the word legendary because I wanted everyone to soul search & pick their brains to identify the few that comes to mind after a process of elimination, even if you have to research forgotten Comics dead or alive. Also in my 1st comment I mentioned that a honorable mention would be great as well. Edited April 6, 2017 by Smurf

LimeGreenLegend 4,256
A couple of my favourite Stewart Lee routines. First, ten minutes on Top Gear (he's not a fan :D) And nearly half an hour on the phrase "give it to me straight, like a pear cider that's made from 100 percent pears". He also rants at the audience for a while. If you have the time I think these are worth a watch
