I am useless at these, any advice on how to succeed at these game modes?

INB4 : kill more times than everyone else :P

I'm not proprly a specialist at DM's, but here are some random (and slightly disorganized) pieces of advice.

I had a look at your stats on the Social Club and you seem to have a quite low headshot rate, both in PvP and against NPC's. Headshots make the difference in PvP, when two people begin shooting each other at the same time the guy with the first headshot wins. You need to practice and master the R stick flick until it becomes second nature. I guess I got good at them because even in single player I'm obsessed with scoring those, since GTA IV. I would recommend when doing missions with the crew start forcing yourself to kill enemies with headshots. You will take a while at first, but it will quickly become second nature. If you just spray torsos with automatic weapons you won't improve in them.

The rest is using a bit of wits and being calm. Use movement. Don't run into open areas, use cover with precision. When you and another guy are in cover against each other, learn to cheat him, such as a very quick L2 tap to expose yourself and hide again, this makes them expose themselves in an attempt to kill you as well giving you an opening for a more determined L2 press and shooting. Other stuff I do is pretending to run away and when they chase me I'm ready to shoot them as soon as they turn around the corner. My blip is pointing away from him, but my camera is pointing in his direction. If he thinks you're afraid of him he'll expose himself in desperation to get the kill and probably shoot too soon, or turn the corner before locking on to you. Learn to use the roll as well, it's extremely useful. In open grounds, if you're aiming before your opponent and not locking then you need to decide very quickly if you want to shoot with auto-aim or roll once or twice forward to gain the lock before him.

Practice quick weapon switching. It's insane the number of people that use rifles at close range, when the Assault Shotgun has such a devastating power. It's a one hit kill, and it has a very good  rage (for a shotgun) as well.

In auto-aiming mode, it's about getting used to the weapons lock-on distances (and avoid exposing yourself when beyond those), using cover and movement smartly, and lots of practice with headshots.

Make sure attack priority is on standard.

But yeah, flicking the stick back to pull the gun up to a head shot. Made a big difference in my game.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Yeah this, I'm always getting people moaning "he's cheating" or "He's lagging"

BS, my net is more than capable and it's that super fast sh*t, this aint that 4MB stuff

I try telling crew in a DM about the priority attack, either you guys don't hear me, don't understand me or just talk over the top of me repeating the above phrases.

So make sure that is on standard and use tactics, only fools rush in.

Same for me, Headshots kill a lot faster.

But when you do get those headshots, beware for the ones who then complain to you that they couldn't kill you and that they shot you n the head loads of times but you didn't die

I leave it on standard and I don't kill crew by accident any more than the next person.

Put it on low and you will forget or have to change it once the DM starts.

I always start on low, wondering why I can't lock properly. Might as well try leaving it on standard, the only time I've killed crew members accidentally is when it's been set to low anyway.

I'm not an expert at all in DM/TDM. Actually, I think my first ones were with the crew last weekend so...

I don't have a real strategy, I just run towards the action. I follow the blips on the map to see where other players are located and I shoot on sight. I'd say keep firing at your opponent until he dies or until you star taking too much damage. Don't stop halfway. I also use the cover as much I can to protect me. Also when shooting at someone, I pull the stick back to get a headshot. Works wonder as others have said before.

About body armor and weapons, I grab them when they're close to me. I don't think its wise to cross the map to get an armor or a medipack.

Just take your chance if they are too far away.

Also don't hesitate to kill a player who received damage from another one. It's not very fair play but hey... :P

Oh yeah, I continually call Lester to know where everyone is. Doesn't always get me the win, but I can stay in the top 5 pretty easy this way. Some may think this is a bitch move but it is in game and while I do try to play fair, I do play to win.

There isn't much that I can add that hasn't already been said, but just practice, practice, practice.  I took the time to learn a variety of different maps.  Take mental of note of where re-spawn points are located, and move around very carefully.  If I haven't seen any red blips in awhile, I do what Hatch suggested and put in a quick call to Lester.  I'm also not above finding a roof with cover and sniping people from above.  If it's a melee style match, don't run full force into a group of opponents (as you are sure to get beaten down); try to stay with your teammates and back them up.

I love DMs (except the ones with tanks), and I will gladly practice with anyone who is interested in playing.

If you're able to use you own weapons, be sure to have at least 2 (long range and short) fitted with a silencer especially for DM as a loud weapon will immediately show everyone where you are on the mini map, I have assault shottie and special carbine.

I also never use a flashlight but some do and that will give your position away.

Play them more and you will improve, follow the tips given here by everyone and use a bit of strategy and you won't go far wrong.

How do people hide their blips all the time?

Make no noise or call Lester.

Running, climbing, jumping and of course shooting all make noises and will highlight your position on the mini map.

The ring around your blip shows how much noise you are making.
