Xyon14 2,312
Yes, yes YES!!! If you go, go with Plus net. Sky is rubbish (stay away from sky if you can), Plusnet is a sub company of BT with way better customer service, pay the extra 2 quid a month and go for unlimited downloading too. There is no cap and Pirate bay is not blocked. Since we went with the fiber optic I have had no nights with the usual "ARGHHH" as I had before. Our pings are in the low 20's with great latency to go with it. Quote Crew Policies and Vetting Procedure
Ronny 1,061
This is off course from my personal experience in Norway. I had ADSL ( Dont know if you call it DSL or something??) earlier with many many and then some problems, after I moved and installed Fibre Optic I haven't had any problems since i moved into my house in October 2012. The only few hiccups has been resolved by restarting the router, if it aint to expensive considering the broadband you already have I would say go for it But you should probably listen to the other Scottish people her and not an Norwegian Edited June 12, 2014 by RO9M
Fido_le_muet 5,198
Yeah I have Fiber here in France and it's miles ahead the quality of ADSL. I never lose my connection when browsing internet and I believe I have way less disconnection issues than most of you (lucky me). I don't how things are in the UK but it should be at least as good as here. Even better most likely.
DavidCore89 7,404
Fibre is the standard, accept nothing less these days. Although I have doubts about some of the bigger providers from the UK, such as Plus Net and Talk Talk who's upload, download and bandwidth are crippled, especially at peak times when most providers slow everyone down. With Virgin Media for years but 2 weeks ago I had download, upload and bandwidth doubled free of charge for being a long time customer and £20 knocked off per month. Currently getting 60MB download, 20MB upload, very high ping and my bandwidth is classed as very good. I would suggest Virgin Media, then BT and then Sky - I've used them all but Virgin Media is by far the best IMO. Troysayshi 80
Of course it's worth the extra money. You wont look back. The download speed is phenomenal. I'm on 150 or thereabouts, don't actually get that but still you see time to take and it says some thing like 240 minutes and your like groan and then a minute later it's down to 100 mins then before you know it it's done. The only download that took an eternity was the Senna update on GT6 last week. No more downloading before your able to watch anything properly. The only thing you don't get with Virgin is Sky Atlantic. Then again I just import 'Game of Thrones' and 'True Blood' from the States... Casey 1,680
Ok, thanks everyone. No negatives, checked the cost with bt and it's only a few quid more than I'm paying now so it's a bit of a no brainer. Fibre Optic and beyond!!! Thanks again x

handcuff_charlie 801
Is it worth the extra money? Been having a few broadband issues over the last few days so I'm considering fibre optic. Would appreciate any existing users comments and views to help me decide. Thanks in anticipation :-) It depends. You need to find out all the pertinent details. For example there are plenty of areas in the US which use fiber-optic cabling and advertise their internet service as such HOWEVER the fiber-optic lines do not run all the way to you home. They are the main lines which reach a junction box of sorts for maybe a few homes and then a coax line is run from there to the house itself....so in this case the difference is really only noticed by the ISP itself and the individual home user doesnt really see any difference. I dunno about the UK but in the USA the trend now is to sell internet service according to data transfer rates, so even if your ISP has fiber-optic lines, it doesnt mean you are receiving faster data transmission speeds than your neighbor who is on a coax transmission line.... Here in my part of Miami we supposedly have fiber-optic network in place yet my transmission speeds are ~30-35Mbps-dowload & 5-8Mbps upload, which is less than what I pay for (50Mbps).....I was getting at least these speeds back in the infancy of cable (coax) internet service in South Carolina back in the late-90's & 2000 at roughly the same price. The speeds these companies quote is the MAXIMUM possible, but your connection may never realize...how this is legal...well iknow how it is legal because Americans dont give a shit about being lied to at all anymore or hold anyone accountable for anything.....basically just saying make sure that you dont pay more thinking you will get more if it isn't certain that will be the case. Casey 1,680
Thanks HC. You're right in what you say, the fibre optic cable just runs to the box at the end of the street (fibre to the home not available in our area) but they are predicting speeds of 15-19.9 MB upload and 53-70 MB download which is a vast improvement on my current 0.38 MB upload and 2.68 MB download!! Whether or not I notice a difference running around the streets of Los Santos remains to be seen but I doubt it Anyway, the new package has only cost £2 extra a month and that's with an upgrade from evening & weekend calls only to all day calls as well as the upgraded broadband so a good deal me thinks. Yikes, that is a huge step up regardless. I would defintely go for it. While you might not notice the difference just from in-game, you will be able to do more things at once on your LAN than you could prior for sure without affecting gameplay. Casey 1,680
Well, I've had it for a while now and a couple of things have changed so thought I'd report back. 1. Although I started freezing problems after one of the more recent updates like everyone else in the world (seems like), since I got fibre optic my freezing episodes have dropped from 4 or 5 times a day to once or twice since it was installed.........so almost never! The modem does randomly reboot but these are getting less and less. 2. I have started splitting into parallel sessions when playing GTA with a friend, it's happening all the time i.e. We'll be doing a mission/race/survival when all of a sudden one of us will leave (doesn't say such and such has left, they just disappear), we both split into doing the same thing but on our own. Most recently we split during a survival where we were on level 9 then split but were still both on level 9 only in 2 different survivals. Wonder if it's to do with differing speeds maybe?? Anyway, that's the 2 main things I have noticed. Not really noticed any changes to web browsing etc.
Fido_le_muet 5,198
The splitting thing also happened to me during the F1 championship. Everyone left the session except me. Turns out I was the one leaving to them. I'm on fibre also so could be a cause ?
Casey 1,680
I've always had everyone left the session thing (i.e. me!!) in free roam but this is the first time I've split while doing jobs etc. I send him invites to join me to complete and he's doing the same back, while we both wait and wonder why each other aren't joining!!
