D-Rocks 284
Does anyone know if it is normal for the numbers on a carbon monoxide detector to go up when you open the door to your gas oven to check on the food that is cooking?
Lamigra1706 16
From what I've read it may or should go up a bit, but not a lot, if a lot then your ventilation is broken, or is damaged.

Should it go up to 35 if the ventilation wasn't turned on?
Lamigra1706 16
No Idea, I searched up the question and did some research, I honestly don't have a gas kitchen range. SO I really don't know, sorry. Edited December 2, 2017 by Lamigra1706
The_Lady_A 1,280
What's the danger levels on your detector? Although gas burns very clean it does still produce some CO. If the reading is in parts per million then the EPA say levels of 30 or more are normal for poorly adjusted gas stoves. OSHA says exposure of 50ppm for 8 hours is the legal limit. 200ppm is the ceiling after which you will suffer negative health effects. So if you're concerned, more the detector to the areas where you spend time such as living room or what have you. That's where it will have more impact on your health.
