RC Fighter Jet

Recommended Posts

So I have come across this pretty cool video of a remote control fighter jet. There are heaps of videos of other ones but this guy has installed a camera for a point of view and even made the pilot move to control the plane!

It would be so much fun to fly one of these things! gta will have to do for now haha

What do you guys think of it and have you ever flown rc planes before?

I fly RC planes alot though I do not own any jets yet. I got 18 of them.

That plane is pretty cool and seems very detailed with the electronics (thrust vectoring and pilot moving the control). Alot of wiring packed in a small plane.

I will say I am not a fan of FPV. Right now there is legislation in the US Government between the FAA and the AMA (RC Plane Headquaters) and they are trying to draw the line between hobby FPV and potential terrorist drone. My thing against FPV is the fact it takes to people to fly the plane safely. The pilot typically has goggles on so he/she can not see the plane and there fore if they disoriented the plane will most likely be lost and possibly hit some one. The 2nd person is in eye sight of the plane with a "buddy box" and can take control of the plane if needed. I prefer to not have someone else fly my aircraft.

If this hobby is something you are interested in let me know, I can give and get all the info you need, but I can say a jet should not be your first plane and if it is just send me your money cuz it won't live past it's maiden flight.

Video of my B17 (shitty video btw)

And a video of a real jet with real jet engine (not electric like the video in the OP). This is at the club I belong to and the owner and pilot of this plane is recognized as top 10 in the world in RC flying (Frank Knoll), I have learned loads from him and others in my club.

Wow so many planes haha! My dad flew RC planes when he was younger. he had gliders and single engined planes. Still has a few in the garage!

I have been to a RC plane club once and watched them fly. Amazing stuff! I have never done it but seeing all this makes me want too haha.

The jet sounds amazing! Only 20k worth though! wow. I have a couple of miniture indoor helicopters which are fun enough (and cheap enough)

The first person view is pretty cool to look at in a video and i guess would be pretty cool to have it while flying but as you said they can be used for bad reasons. Its a shame that it has to be like that but such is life.

About a year ago there was a big thing here about the sale of drone type helicopters, more about privacy issues from people snooping around there neighbours and stuff haha. Not sure what the laws are regarding that here but i would imagine that it is quite similar.

I know the planes need to be in a specialised area away from the public incase they crash. Since they are operated via radio frequency, wouldnt they lose control if used in the suburbs? I know from the rc cars that they need a failsafe to hit the brakes when it gets interference as i have learnt from experience and it hit full throttle and crashed, thankfully not breaking it as it was brand new!

But it would be an amazing hobby which i may in the future get into, time dependent of course!

As far a frequency goes, that isn't a major issue these days. All newer systems operate on 2.4 ghz and they rotate frequency several times a second to eliminate interference. Almost everyone i know uses it without issue. You can still use the older 72 and 49 mhz systems but them you expose your self to problems. With the newer stuff you can fly anywhere without interference.

Agreed, I use a 2.4 on my truggy with no issues, even if there are 20+ other cars around.

The failsafe has never needed to do anything.

I also have a RC speedboat but that hasn't been used for time.

I'd like to get an RC plane but I can't justify spending more than £200 just in case I destroy it.

Yeah my car is probably almost 8 years old with the interchangeable chip to set frequency. It never really got interference that often but yeah the newer technology sounds good.

@Scotty, I was thinking on this the other day and realized I never fully responded to this.

If you are looking to fly and want to give it a go at low cost to see how you like it then check into getting this http://www.horizonhobby.com/gotta-have-it/sport-cub-s-rtf-with-safe-reg%3B-technology-hbz4400

We have 3 of them (one is mine, the other 2 belong to my sons), I flew this alot when first learning, it has no ailerons and is very mild mannered. And they can take a beating. If you break it just glue it back together.

Now, that said even though it is small it does require a fair bit of runway to land and it does not do well in 5mph + winds.

I ended up putting floats on mine and I take it down to the local lake and fly once in a while. With 2 car chargers and 3 extra batteries you can fly non stop.

Wow that's pretty cool. I'll have to look up the regulations on flying it in the local park.

That's a good idea to make it a sea plane, as long as you land smoothly lol.

This is the plane on my first landing on water

You make it look easy! I was expecting a crash into the water :P

Me too. Usually when you here someone say "I'm doing this for the first time", there is carnage lol.

I couldn't even get a styrafoam plane off the ground. In my defense I had no clue what I was doing, and it was the cheapest rc plane ever made, lol. I logged .783 seconds of flight time before it crashed and burned, haha.

I will stick with my mini heli and 3s 8400Kv brushless 1/18th ProPulse; something this small should not be going 80MPH+, its a pain to control at those speeds.

I can also attest to the reliability of the 2.4ghz wireless control system, problem free since installing it 2 years ago. Wish the stock parts lasted that long with the brushless lol.

Yeah, I'm not to good with helis. But I haven't spent alot of time with them. I do have a Vcam quadcopter (working video recorder on board).

Well, it doesn't fly, it's not a jet but it does go on water like Hatch's plane so here goes.

1:24 scale, 40" long, 50+ lbs, three 12v gel batteries in series powering two Pittman wheelchair motors geared down 3:1, 3.5" wheels in Kort nozzles, wired for lights but they are not hooked up yet.

This is about as finished as it is now, still lots of stuff to do but I lost motivation.

And of course it needs a barge.

That looks pretty cool. I have never really been around boats mostly cause to get to a flat fresh water lake is a bit of a pain. Ive only got some micro helis for indoor use which are fun but have now broken (not due to crashing :P)

The heli I have is also a micro. They are so small and light they usually dont break until they are worn out.
