I'm guessing this is the renamed what do you drive irl thread? Today I've mostly been in these, instructing in the silver one and then doing demonstrations in the blue one.

I'm not sure if I posted a picture of this already pre forum/thread merge so I am just going to post these anyway. A still as yet unfinished project Mk2 Escort. It's nothing fancy, just a 1600 cr

As an update on my end, still running the world's most unreliable Hyundai! Since buying the car I've had to replace the clutch (was expecting this anyway), cambelt (previous owner didn't service the d

You can get some absolutely mint Volvo estates at that price range, not gonna lie I nearly went for one if I hadn't been so set on the Coupe. They depreciate in price surprisingly quickly.

Managed to clear some space by scrapping the remnants of one of the BMW's.

The pink princess is now an ex-car, it has ceased to be and will be part of a washing machine or something fairly soon.

Didn't do too badly out of it, I've kept the doors, bumpers, lights etc. as spares for the other two shells for when they inevitably take a trip into the scenery somewhere. Sold off the interior etc. out of it and ended up having made a profit on the car overall. Did about two years of autotests (basically a more complex Autocross for our American visitors), autosolos and little club navigation events and then made a profit. Can't get vexed at that.

The space it occupied is already filled.

This is the Ford Puma I mentioned a while ago, the intention is to build it to Super 1600 specification which was part of the kit car regulations back in the late 90's, early 2000's.

A friend of mine (who owns the rally school I instruct at) used to build them for Ford Motorsport and has a lot of original kit, we've been starting to work through reverse engineering and in some cases then improving (lightening and strengthening) some of the original parts so that we can replicate them for people who want totally original Ford Motorsport spec bits and also offer upgrade kits as well.

It's not the best of videos but this is the kind of spec. we should be ending up with.

That's a car my friend built for Ebbe in about 2011 or 2012 iirc, he had also built one for him prior to that.

Rough specification we should be ending up at around 245 bhp with the current 1.7 stroked down to 1.6, with a 6-speed sequential gearbox, weight down around 800 kg, we could go lighter but I need to argue with the authorities to see if my reading of the current regs would be accepted or if they would ban it.

Pretty much all that will be remaining of the shell as it sits there is the doors, chassis rails and centre section of the shell. The rear quarters are replaced with composite from the b pillar back over and the middle of the c-pillar down.

I don't have the homologation papers to hand, but iirc the S1600 is about 80mm wider than a stock Puma and also is wider than the limited edition wide bodied road car that they did.

Not checked the car over properly yet, if we find the shell is a bit rough then my intention is to hack the floor out of it and spaceframe it and then maybe rallycross it rather than build it as a rally car.

Yes, just a 1600cc N/A and a lot of revs, hence the fact they sound all raspy like that.

The kit car regs of the era (late 90's, early 2000's) for two wheel drive cars was limited to N/A engines.

There was F2, which was the up to 2 litre class and had the likes of the Peugeot 306 Maxi and Xsara kit car and they all had the same kind of screamer engines but up around 300 to 320hp and pushing 9800 rpm. They didn't do too well overall on gravel or snow, but on tarmac they could go toe to toe with the 4 wheel drive Turbo Group A and WRC cars like the Evos and Escort WRC's etc.

Then the Puma ran with the Opel Corsa, Citroen Saxo etc. in the S1600 class which was the next tier down from F2.

Build wise they were really more akin to a super tourer spec racing car than you'd traditionally expect a rally car to be built.

Ford also did a 1400cc kit version of the Puma, the intention had been that they would run 3 championships, one for pretty much standard Ford Ka and if you won the championship you'd get a factory drive in the 1400 kit Puma which also was to have it's own championship and then the S1600 as the top tier.

They also had plans to homologate a 4WD, Turbo Puma as a WRC car. Which was to be based on the Escort Cosworth/WRC so that club competitors could transition their running gear into that and still do WRC events while the works team would run the Focus WRC.

Basically they wanted a full "ladder of opportunity" type of deal, where you could compete at any level and be in a Ford and have that access to the main Ford Motorsport depot for parts and support etc. They even also started reproducing parts for the old rear wheel drive Escorts around that time as well.

However, when Ford Motorsport got shut down and the factory team got shipped out to M-Sport all of that eventually fell by the wayside.

I'm debating what will happen with the green BMW in the background of that, it's either a 3.0 6 cylinder or we may look at going turbo in that and running something smaller like a 1.6 or 1.7 Turbo.

Although like all car projects they could also end up just getting sold/stripped/scrapped at some point instead!

Just aquired a 98 Chevy 1500 4wd, it has a new engine (0 miles on it), they put it and can't figure out why it won't run, I already know the timing is 180 degrees out. They gave the truck to me free. I don't feel bad about it because I told them the cause and they don;t wanna f*ck with it. Also got a 96 Ford 150 (also free), runs and drives, little rust, from same people, it was taking up space in their drive way.

Posted this back in March, finally pulled the 4wd home, had the new engine running in less than hour. However when they put the new engine in they didn't tighten the flywheel bolts, so the tranny came out to tighten them up, haven't got it back in yet, gonna toss a new torque converter and front seal on it, and a new chain and seals for the transfer case.

I think I am going to fix all issues with my 2000 S10 and sell it, I'll get enough out of it to cover most of the cost to restore the 4wd to new condition and will probably drive it for the next 20 years or so.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

New daily driver, I've been on the hunt for a 3 Series Estate or a 1 Series but prices seem to have spiked and I personally think they are all over valued at the moment.

Was getting a bit pushed for something to use day to day as my A6 needed a load of work and I've decided it's not worth the effort.

So I've ended up acquiring this, it's pretty high spec, loads of toys and actually drives way nicer than I expected. Doesn't feel as solid as a v*g car but it's actually pretty nice and I'm surprised to say I actually like it.

It needs some work but it was an auction purchase and went way under what it should do. Had been planning to use it until I can get a BMW I want at the right kind of value, but I might actually just keep it for a few years anyway.

My fleet is getting thinned out this year, both Yukons will be going bye bye, I'll probably take the engine, tranny and transfer case out of one them to keep, never know when I will need an LS engine to toss into something. Dump truck is going to go as well.

Getting things laid out to merge both '98's into one truck, scrap whats left over.

As an update on my end, still running the world's most unreliable Hyundai! Since buying the car I've had to replace the clutch (was expecting this anyway), cambelt (previous owner didn't service the damn thing for 4 years and it had very little history so decided better safe than sorry), replaced both rear callipers as they both seized within 2 weeks of each other, had a full stainless catback exhaust system after the original fell apart as I was driving and I've also changed the wheels to 18" XXR 527s... nice and fat 8.75J ET35... I had a lot of fun getting those to fit 😂 Also need to get the CV joints changed as one of them is clunking badly, also got clunking coming from both rear shocks so debating going onto coilovers as the ride is already pretty terrible but we'll see..

Can see most up to date photos here: https://sewell-automedia.co.uk/hyundai-coupe-tsiii

My automotive photography business is doing pretty well, I've got a GR Yaris & MkV GR Supra together for a shoot in a couple of weeks as well as McLaren MP4-12C. You can see most of my current shoots here: https://sewell-automedia.co.uk/ and it's also landed me an internship with Kahn Design - who make stuff like 6x6 Land Rover Defenders with Corvette V8s 😂 I'll be starting there in a month or so which should be pretty good I hope!

Well, I'm selling my White F250 SuperDuty. I just don't utilize it.  This means I need to move my race trailer and unload my gear and my Mach1, since I won't have anything ready to move the trailer. Maybe this will kick me in the *ss to get it back to the street!

I properly want a GR Yaris, absolutely epic little cars that will almost certainly become a collector's classic in the future I think
