What do you do?

I work in IT for a large logistics company, basically keeping remote depots working and setting up new depots. Everything from PC / Printer support to network infrastructure and local file servers. It's an interesting varied job which gives me a good work/life balance, which helps greatly when you have a wife who also works full-time and a small (well not so small now) child.

"currently between employment opportunities"

First 15 years was an odd mix of government office, car maintenance, photographer - moved to Canada in 90 and sort of fell into IT on a full time basis - network installs and management, database systems, installing/training yada yada yada.  After 25 or so years (the last five with IBM) working with 'puters, I've seriously had enough of the bloody things (AND the users) so I'm figuring out what to do for the 10 years to retirement age.  The house and cars are paid for so I'm lucky that I don't need to go chasing after the mega bucks.  I'm just trying to find something that actually makes me WANT to get out of bed in the mornings - MANAGEMENT© thinks I should share my love of power tools by getting a job at Home Depot.

Of course, I could always go back to pole dancing...

I'm more of a creator, I went to college for communications with a special interest in film and script writing, I was able to produce a small movie for college and got it on TV, then I worked on the radio for a few years, but I wanted more so I went back to college and got my masters in social work, I was working for a non profit but they ran out of money, so I'm looking to get back into an agency, but in the meantime, a friend owns a construction company, and I help him out when he needs it.

I work as an Project manager/engineer at a electrical firm

I use mostly of my work time in project planing and engineering, have been working the last 5 years with hydro plants,

but have now transferred to the Oil and Gas department.

I'm also an "educated" football (soccer) coach with an NFF C-licence, this is the licence before the UEFA B-licence.

This license makes me allowed to train up to 2nd div. men and 1st div. women in Norway, not sure why there's a difference doh, don't shoot the messenger ;)

But my hardest and most rewarding job is as an family Dad and taking care of my two wonderful boys and finance :)

I'm a Post Production Supervisor at an ad agency in Los Angeles, they edit all of their spots in-house, I run that department.  The content they produce is garbage, but how many commercials are really all that good anyway lol?  Worked on a few movies but never got anything going, when that fails most people in this industry try to make their living in commercials, so here I am.  Same with the wife, she's a Production Coordinator on commercials.

I did USAF for 8 1/2 years. aircraft maintenance. crew chief for U-2 and F-15E models. only 18mo on the F15 because it was unbelievable to work on. you go home Friday all FMC (fully mission capable / no major issues) and you come in Monday and 1/2 the fleet is NMC (non-mission capable / broke dick).

got really sick last couple years and they sent me to the docs and did whole 9 yards to find out what I had. if my body had a hole, they went inside it with a camera to look. after 2 weeks of being x rayed and boroscoped, they figured out severe chrons disease.

forced medical retirement and now I'm studying astronomy living off retirement and GI Bill. GI bill gonna run out next year though, then I'll have to find a real job again

Update on my earlier "between employment opportunities" status...

I'm going through the process to get certified as a vehicle emissions inspector, so I can take over a local "Drive Clean" testing location.  That's about as far away from anything connected with PC/Server/Network chit as I could manage so it's got me pretty stoked.  Kind of a full circle thing, as I started my working life in a garage back in the UK as a teenager.

So for anyone who lives nearby and needs an emissions test...  the good news is that I CAN be bribed.  The bad news is that I ain't cheap...

;)

Currently I am unemployed. Its hard to find good work when you live in the sticks. Even harder when you haven't fully taken care of the mistakes you made when you were younger. As of right now I have a suspended license until the beginning of next month, once I can get that back I can start actively seeking work again.

I used to think I always got the short end of the stick in life; Always blaming everyone else for my mistakes. Then I learned a number of years ago the only person I could blame is myself. Ever since then I have been working to make everything right again, its been a hard road but the only person I can thank for that is me. I am blessed to have parents that have supported me through everything, and because I am currently unemployed, they are helping me out once again by allowing me to live under thier roof until I can get back on my feet.

Enough of the sob story, I like to think of myself of a jack of all trades, I can do just about anything. From small and large electronics, to the auto mechanical field, computer repair, plumbing, carpentry, fabrication, etc... The list goes on and on and its way too much to list.

I have worked as an auto mechanic, a delivery driver, a photographer, shipping and recieving in a wholesale warehouse, a cook(several times), and your typical mundane minimum wage jobs. I have always wound up going back into the foodservice because it pays well, and I am good at it, but it gets tiresome after a while.

The one thing that I would LOVE to do for the rest of my life is race professionally. In either GT style racing or otherwise. I'm not a fan of going fast in a straight line, or making left turn, after left turn, after left turn. I have always believed that the best test of a drivers skill is a very technical track where the best driver will win. Hence my love of the Nurburgring.

Wow, I sure can babble on can't I?
