Spectre,

I can see why Daniel Craig is refusing to do any more Bond films. After the new Casino Royale there was such promise of a new gritty Bond but it's just slipped back to the usual typical cheese. Maybe it's want the Bond fans want but as a film it was a total predictable yawn fest. Only Christoph Waltz added anything to the film but apart from that it was a complete fail from me.

The Revenant : 9/10

Beautiful cinematography. The light and landscape shots were amazing. You really feel the pain of poor Leo.

Best film of 2016 so far.

I didn't realise till last night that it's based on a true story. It's amazing what that guy went through, he was one tough motherfucker.

Just read the Wikipedia page on Hugh Glass and the film seems pretty close to what really happened, minus the revenge part and half-native son.

The guy crawled 200 miles back to a US fort after his encounter with the bear. Incredible survival feat indeed.

I shit you not, the last film I watched was The Fast and the Furious.

I've got to say, it wasn't as good as it was when I'd watched it as a kid. Some serious nostalgia factor going on there.

5/10 would not blow intake welds again.

Cloverfield : 8.5/10

3rd time I've watched this movie and I always find it awesome.

It is very well done and you really feel the stress and horror of the situation the characters are in.

Shaky cam is very shaky at times but it fits the movie perfectly.

I also love the fact that we know next to nothing about the threat, just like the characters do.

Can't wait for the follow up, 10 Cloverfield Lane, coming out at the end of the month.

Fury

WWII movie starring Brad Pitt about a Sherman tank crew near the end of the war.

There is some serious gore in it and it shows how desperate the Germans got near the end.

Character development is good but I'm easy to please and not a film critic. It was good enough for me.

Would have like more on tank tactics. I've watched it twice on my iPad on flights. At some point I'll watch it on the big TV.

Didn't know a second Cloverfield. Cool!

I remember watching the first one in the cinema. It was good and all that, but very short. Was pretty much the only thing people talked about going out of the cinema.

Definitely too short. 1h24 only.

The second one will be a bit longer (1h40). Apparently it will feature a new monster and won't be a found footage movie. The trailer looks awesome though, definitely worth checking out !

So I read a story on-line that states the new 10 Cloverfield Lane, actually is a movie that was written and started production in the early 2000's but then dropped by the company. This film was recently picked up by the Cloverfield project, and changed parts of the flick to make it part of the Cloverfield family. I also read that the movie is not a prequel, nor a sequel. It is to be a "cousin" film. On that note, I am still VERY excited to see it, as I am a HUGE John Goodman fan, and the previews make it look intense!

Watched Mrs. Doubtfire with the wife last night. I have seen this flick quite a few times, and man o' man, it cracks me up every time. Robin Williams was one of the greatest comedians of all time. He is in my top two favorites, a long with Jim Carrey. In this flick, Williams gets to express his talents in using many different voices to entertain the public. It opens as him doing voice over for a cartoon, and throughout we get to hear many many different styles of voices. This film is great for all ages, and if you have not had the pleasure to see it, I highly recommend you do.

Mrs. Doubtfire 9/10 Stars.

Family Friendly

A Must see!

Zootopia (9.5/10)

This is a must see for anyone with kids....Even if you don't have kids it is worth watching. Sinister and I laughed the whole way through it. Best Disney movie I have seen in a very long time.

Man of Steel : 7.5/10

A decent superhero flick. It was entertaining. The title character looks a bit ridiculous at times but that's inherent to the character itself. Superman is naive, like a child that discovers the world.

The bad guy is way too caricatural, he's a one-layered character who think about only one thing : recreate his planet and killing those who oppose him.

Top notch special effects, they look beautiful but there is way too much destruction and explosions. Michael Bay looks like an amateur next to this.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Visually awesome, it looks absolutely beautiful. Costumes, photography, special effects, everything is incredible !

It's Mad Max so everything is crazy and 10000000% over the top but there's an impressive amount of thought that went into designing this movie.

Scenario is the most basic there is but that's not the point. In this movie, a deeper scenario would have ruined the film IMO.

I gave up Mad Max during the first movie, never cared for what was going on but that one is awesome! Kudos for Electric Guitar Playing Man, best character in the movie :D

All in all : 8.5/10, mostly because of the visuals.

Very rare that a Pixar film is not well done. They can pull off more emotion in 2 minutes than lots of full movies. One of the first scenes in UP, still gets me.

The Martian !

Very cool movie about a man stranded on Mars. Really loved the pacing of the movie, slow most of the time with some intense moments in between.

Everything is super realistic and pretty fairful to what a real manned mission to Mars would be like.

The space porn is there and it is glorious ! We are entering a new golden age of space movies after Gravity and now this.

So Batman v Superman...

Can't say I liked it, but can't say I hated it. First thing : it's way too long. Could have been 30-40 mins shorter and it wouldn't have impacted the story. First half is dragging too much, 2nd is more action packed.

Batman was interesting, having been a vigilante for 20 years, he's seen some stuff and he doesn't give a shit about hurting the bad guys anymore. It's a bit shocking to see but it fits the character's background perfectly.

Superman is just boring. Boring love story with Lois Lane.

As the title suggest, they fight beach other but obviously they become allies after that. But the spark that makes them stop fighting is fucking ridiculous ! Even B movies have better plot devices than that. Awful that was.

The music is very crappy as well. It doesn't fit with what's happening on screen.

Wonder Woman is awesome ! One of the highlights of the movie. Alfred is cool too but I prefer The Dark Knight one. But like Batman, he's been through some shit so he's more direct with Bruce.

Justice League cameos were meh. They pop up during the movie but it feels like the director wanted to put those in but didn't really know when... One of the best moment of the film was one of the Flash cameo. I was mind blown ! Didn't realised it was him at first but when my friend told me it hit me. Brilliant !

But no humour at all and the movie is way too serious.

So overall, I'm pretty mixed with this movie. Sorry for the long post :D

Just finished watching one of my all time favourite films. Probably a bit different to most those posted here, Sense and Sensibility. The version directed by Ang Lee, adapted by and starring Emma Thompson with Kate Winslet (a film can't go wrong if she's in it it my opinion). Excellently made, stunning cinematography, and a brilliant cast. Needless to say I give it 10/10.

THIS RIGHT HERE :P

I could go on and on about all the things i didnt like it but when you have someone like Zack Snyder direct your film, what do you expect? The only thing i could equate this to is to his film, "300". I thought it was a so so film that focused more on the action than the actual story. I am thoroughly convinced that there was no script written for this film and rather just ideas thrown together that resulted in a crude basic outline of the fight scenes.

I cannot stress enough how much of a missed opportunity this film was, it could of easily been broken up into two or more films and the ideas fleshed out but WB has decided they rather do so in the Justice League film...maybe more than likely not.  I would think that a Justice League movie has to be better than what this film was because of how exciting and well thought the animated show was.

My reaction to this movie from a critic and unbias perspective is "this movie could of had a better story but they gave it all up for the sake of action scenes and a potential justice league film franchise"

I totally agree with you Fido, the soundtrack was absolutely horrendous. The final fight scene soundtrack especially...hans zimmer and junkie xl did a terrible job of bringing it when it comes to the overall sound of this movie.

My reaction as a fan: I HATE YOU ZACK SNYDER

Steve McQueen: The Man & LeMans

Watched this over the weekend. It's on Showtime and also available on Amazon, not sure where else. It's a two hour documentary about the making on Le Mans. I liked it and found it interesting although the pace is slow. I've only seen Le Mans once and now I want to see it again. The movie itself is also slow paced and there is very little dialog. You need to already be a fan of auto racing and the 24 hours of Le Mans to enjoy it. The documentary answered a lot of questions as to why the film is the way it is. One big one is they had no script. The plan was to film the actual race then build a script around what happened and film supporting scenes for the 3 months following the race. There were multiple writers and revisions, production stretched on, it went way over budget and eventually the studio took over production.

Some of the good things that came out of it were totally new ways of filming and putting the viewer in the action. And laying groundwork for accuracy and realism in this type of movie. A little more on the nuts& bolts of the production would have interested me but the doc spends most of the time on the politics of the production.

I'll wait until it comes out on dvd!

Ever since I was a kid, I always thought Batman v Superman was a dumb idea. I even got into a fight with a bully about it. He lost!

The Forbidden Kingdom - Watched Thursday Evening - 8.5/10

Jackie Chan and Jet Li star in this Action Comedy about a boy from our time, being sent to Ancient China to return a staff to the Monkey King, who was tricked by the Jade Warlord and turned into a statue 500 years prior. Jackie Chan and Jet Li had been trying to find a movie to do together when they were shown the script for this. It is the first time we see both on screen together, and it is worth it in my honest opinion. It really does show how well these two can do together, and also how skilled they are. This is good fun for the whole family, though your 4 year old probably wont like it :P

Daddy's Home - Watched Friday Night - 7.5/10

Mark Whalberg and Will Ferrell star in this comedy about a step day (Ferrell) trying to, and finally getting some love and respect from his two step children, when the kids biological father (Wahlberg) decides to call, and then show back up in their lives. Non-stop "comic" relief around every corner as these two battle it out to be "The Best Dad" one can be, and be the kids favorite. I myself do not like Ferrell, never have. I do not like his style of comedy either. BUT, with that being said, he did stray from it a bit, and I THINK I laughed hardest at a few of his lines. Worth a watch for sure.

The Hunger Games Mockingjay PT1 - Watched Sunday Evening - 7/10

Might receive some hate for this one, but man was this movie a disappointment. Let me be clear and let everyone know I HAVE NOT read the books. Being as this is a two part finale film, I was expecting it to be a bit informational. LACKING ACTION TO THE FULLEST. Ok, yes, it has its cools scenes, but really, come on guys.....

The Hunger Games Mockingjay PT2 - Watched Sunday Evening - 7.5/10

What I said about part 1 stands here to, with the exception of some really cool scenes, that make you kinda drop the jaw and say wow. That is where the extra .5 comes in on this score. No spoilers or anything, but man was the ending looooooooooooong. After watching these two back to back, not starting until after the wife gets home from work (around 12am) 4:30/5:00 comes real fast, and the last 12 minutes of this movie seemed like an hour. Would I recommend these films? Well, I rented this one on PSN, and turned around and bought it after, and also bought part 1, so yeah, worth a watch.
