The World Nations Cup

Classic Rally.  Stage 5 from the Sultan Rally by MClethaldose..  This was going to be about the Brits in the Retinues.  Despite starting from the back, non contact on the tight twisty stuff would ensure they came through.  6th for Neka, 3rd for @Spinnaker1981 and 1st  for @SkyeDave who still hasn’t decided whether he should be talking in the first or third person.

The Italians struggled in a mixture of Michelli GTs and GT500s. 8th, 10th and 11th.  Who would be up there mixing it with the Retinues then? Was it the Germans? 

Verstappen managed a 4th in maybe a Stirling GT (I screenshotted the championship standings instead of the race standings by mistake) DoubleG was 7th in something else German and Catman was 10th probably in something with a roof rack.

The Japanese were in probably Savestras or maybe a 190z.  Who knows. Challenger and Mulder were fairly unremarkable this time around in their underpowered rally cars but Badingaa showed a clean run til near the end and brought his 1Sav9est0raZ home in 2nd place.

Lets move swiftly on to the next set of results where hopefully I took a screen shot of the ….. no, f*ck I took one of the championship results again.  Ok, well this one was easy anyway.

 

Compacts at @JuniorChubbs  Xero Gas Valley.

The Brits choose their compacts like they choose their politics.  All different and all utterly f*cking hopeless.  Dave DNFd in an Asbo whilst Neka and Spin were like millenials and boomers, two different genrations (of Issi) that spent so much time fighting with each other they fell way behind everyone else.

At the other end of the spectrum the Germans all in the New King of Compacts Club.  @Mark Verstappen, @doubleg213 and Catwhitevanman (with roof rack) all came from the back right through the field to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively for the first clean sweep of the podium so far. This was of no surprise to anyone, not least the Italians who knew that if only this event had taken place before the summer update it could have been them in their Brioso R/As taking a clean sweep.  Well, maybe before the Casino update anyway because it turns out the Japanese in the Dinka Blista Kanjos managed to split them up.  It finished 3 Germans, then @AlexHat29, @badingaaa, @Warriors-Ten, @mulder, @Paulie, @Challenger001 and then the three Brits.

The second half of the championship would see Supers, sports, classics and the rallying return. It's achingly close between the Japanese and the Germans at the top.  but can the Brits or the Italians fair better in the second half. Also, one team will be making the worst second half substitution since Steven Gerrard got sent off 90 seconds after coming on for Liverpool against Manchester United.

 

Round 7.  Home race for the Japanese at the  Okayama Int Circuit better know as Ti Aida (Thanks to @Mark Verstappen for pointing that out)

It was the home race for the Japanese and they'd get to start at the front.  It was the trio of S80RRs again. @Challenger001 won last time out in the supers but he fell down the order to 9th this time around.    @mulder and @badingaaa would hold on to both finish on the podium.

The Italians all went with Tigons this time.  @Paulie was 6th, @AlexHat2910th and @Warriors-Ten 12th but not last.

Not last? But there were only 12 competitors?  There were, but now their was 13!  Unlucky for some and in this case unlucky for @Aslad who finished last in the Vagner.  Salad was quick to remind us all how the Vagner used to be the best super car but now it was outclassed by many other machines and would never manage the top 10.  It wasn't Salad you see, it was his car. 

Dave finished 4th.  Also in the Vagner.

@Spinnaker1981 would manage a 5th in the Emerus.

 

So what of the Germans?  @doubleg213 and @CatManDoza didn't do as well in the Kriegers this time around.  They started at the back bu only made it to 7th and 8th.  @Mark Verstappen went with the SC1 again and......no, he didn't, he learned from his earlier mistake and quietly borrowed a Krieger on thst start line.  He then took it all the way from the back of the grid and won the race with a fastest lap nearly two seconds quicker than anyone else.  

 

Round 8.  The Nurburgring, Sports.

For Round 8 the Germans were supposed to start at the front of the grid for their home race but I forgot. so they started from second.  Stappen was in the Schlagen GT this time around and got his third podium in a row to finish 2nd.  DoubleG was in his beautiful special blue Comet SR again and came home 6th.  Catman determined to make up for his disappointing car choice with the 8F Drafter last time chose the Schafter V12, know for it's blistering straight line speed.  The thing about the Nurburgring is that.......  corners.  13th and a DNFfor Catman.

 

The Italians started from the back again, this time in a trio of Orange Itali GTOs.  Paulie would be among four drivers to DNF, Warriors would be 7th.  @AlexHat29 would make best use of the GTO finishing 3rd for Italys second podium and getting the fastest lap.

 

So what of the Brits and the Pariahs?  Neka chose not the Pariah but the GB200 and so got a DNF.  Salad chose the Pariah but also DNFd.  Dave Pariahd  but could mange only 8th and Spinnaker who'd done so well last time out in the Ocelots only got as high as 5th.

So it was the Japanese with their accidental front row start who would capitalise on it for the win.  Three white Elegys with red roofs started,  Challenger would drop down to 9th, Mulder in the only RH8 would take 4th.  @badingaaa would prove the prowess of the Retro custom on the Nordschliefe once more with a convincing win.

Round 9 Sports Classic at American Grand Park

The Brits would lose an advantage here you’d barely noticed they’d had in that they were now back down to only 3 drivers again having had four in the last two races.  @Spinnaker1981r had to leave early but had been replaced by @Aslad.  They started from the back and Neka stayed their, DNF for the GT Classic. Salad had a good run in the sw*nger which was making it’s first appearance on the night but he faded towards the end and finished 8th.  I/Dave/whatever finished 5th in the GT Classic.

The Italians struggled a bit last time around in the Sports Classics but they did much better this time around despite starting near the back.  Well, not @Warriors-Ten, he DNFd but @AlexHat29Alex was 4th in the Turismo Classic and @Paulie 6th in the F1 wheeled Turismo Classic. Alex also got the fastest lap,

The Japanese would start at the front again, showing favour once more for the most raced car of the night.  The Annis Savestra.  Three Annis would take part again, @Challenger001 dropped to 10th but @mulder and @badingaaa would hold on for a double podium.

So what of the Germans?  We know they must have had one car in the top 3 but where? And would it be @Mark Verstappen again?  Not this time, Stappen chose the Zion Classic and came home 9th.    @CatManDoza took the Stirling GT, which didn’t have a roof rack but did have a spare tire strapped to the boot which is the next best thing,  and finished 7th.  It was @doubleg213 then who would be on the podium for the Germans in the Stirling GT.  Not just on it, but on top of it beating Badingaa to 2ndplace by just over a second.

So, a win for the Germans but with two Japanese drivers on the podium it had to still be close at the top. However, neither nation would be favoured for the Classic RallyX which was up next.

 

Round 10 Ventian RX by @Mark Verstappen – Classic Rally.

Once again the Retinues should be the car to beat but Neka and Aslad both chose the Mk1 which isn’t as fast.  9th and 5thfor them.  Me/Dave/I had the MKII again and took the win by the narrowest of margins on the last lap so as not to face DoubleGs wrath about failing to win in a Retinue 

This class was never good for the Italians.  Paulie got an 8th in the Michelli GT, Alex could only manage 11th in the GT500.  Star of the show was Warriors who took a chance in a stock Turismo Classic who was running near the front at the start but faded to finish 10th.

Catman fell for the siren that is the Zion Classic, it looks so good but…..  Catman finished last.  DoubleG took the Stirling GT again and finished 6th and Stappen took advantage of the fact he’d built the track and brought his GT home on the podium in 3rd.

This left the trio of Savestras.  Challenger 7th, Mulder 4th and Badingaa was leading right up until the last few corners before losing out to the Retinue II.

Only one race left to go a brutal point to point hillclimb in the Sports Class.......

Round 11 The Cannibal Run Sports Rally

There would be accidents.  Not least at the first corner where a few cars made a beeline for the sea.

 

 @Paulie wouldn’t be able to repeat his impressive run in the Tropos last time out.  Last place for him.

11th was @Challenger001 in the fast but crash Sultan Classic

@Aslad made a typically British car choice, 10th in the GB200

@doubleg213 was last of the Germans and nein-th in the Comet Safaris first appearance of the night.

7th and 8th the Tropos Rallyes of @AlexHat29 and @Warriors-Ten.

6th for @Mark Verstappen in the 1st time out Sentinel Classic.

5th for @mulder in the Sultan Classic.

4th and  Top German for @CatManDoza in the Omnis.  He always does well here.

3rd for me in an Issi Sport which would be more impressive if I didn’t build the track.

2nd for @badingaaa in the Sultan Classic who did one of the best recoveries of the night rolling over down the hill, landing on the next part of the track on his wheels and carrying on without missing a checkpoint.  (blame the creator)

This menat 1st place went somewhat unexpectedly and very impressively to Neka, in a GB200 meaning he scored more points in the last race than he did in the rest of the championship put together.

Amazing job and write up there @SkyeDave 

It was not easy being Italian for a night but I truly enjoyed it and I was happy I could have that one moment were I could be able te shine with the help of my old beloved Tropos and on the old beloved rally track Redwood Lights. It went well against some pretty faster newer cars and that you mentioned this in your wonderful write up, happy days lol

This would leave the Japanese and the Brits to fight it out for the top four positions.  A trio of Savestras would start at the front and would be hunted down by a pair of Rapid GT Classics as  Nekas Rapid GT was out of contention early on.  Dave managed to get his GT all the way up to 4th.  @Challenger001 started near the front but couldn’t capitalize like he did in the S80RR and after a couple of minor accidents fell down to 8th.  

For the top 3 then there would be two Savestras and a GT Classic but in what order?  It was hard to tell and took a bit of working out because the soon to be arriving @Asladsent me a message about his sister right as I was taking the screenshot of the results.

Here is what I deduced:  @Spinnaker1981 got the fastest lap, 3 seconds quicker than the nearest Savestra.  It was enough for him to catch and pass @mulder, beating him by 3 tenths at the end, but it wasn’t quick enough to catch @badingaaa who got his first and Japans second win of the night.  The top 3 then, Badingaa, Spinnaker and Mulder.  Two wins for the Japanese then meant that despite their poor showing at Mt Panorama they were back at the top.

 

Round 4 would be our first Rally event of the eveing at the Redwood Lights Rally Cross track.

The Germans were expected to struggle in the rally class and they did.  Catman and G took the Omnis and managed 7thand 12th.  Verstappen took the classic Stirling GT, the only car to make an appearance in the rally as well as the road race and managed an 8th.

The Italians were also expected to be out of contention with their Tropos Rallyes, once an excellent rally car but now overshadowed by the like of the Flash GT, Issi Sport and most recently the Sultan Classic.  @Warriors-Ten struggled and came home in 12th.  @AlexHat29 put in an excellent showing and finished in 6th.  @Paulie surpassed all expectations for Team Italia with a smooth race from start to finish on a track he knew well and brought the Tropos home for Italys first podium and an impressive 3rd place.

This again left the Brits and the Japanese to fight for the rest of the top spots.  The Japanese showed team spirit once again bringing a trio of the same car, this time the Sultan Classic.  The Brits weren’t really on the same page, Neka struggled in a twitchy GB200 and finished 11th.  Dave brought a Flash GT managed only 5th thanks to a couple of unplanned brexits.

The only thing that could take on the Sultan Classics would prove to be Spinnakers Issi Sport.  The Sultans were fast but they were wild and twitchy.  Too twitchy for Challenger who came home in 8th.  Too twitchy for Mulder who finished 4th(only half a tenth behind Paulies impressive run in the Tropos).  But was it too twitchy for Badingaa?  It was too twitchy for a win certainly. Badingaa would finish 2nd to the smoother and ultimately faster Issi Sport of Spinnaker. Spin got GBs first win of the night and an impressive fastest lap. 

3 winning nations from 4 races so far.  How would they fair in the Classic Rally point to point?  Join us after I've been to the fridge for another beer to find out.

I should’ve had this one, but on the end of the second to last lap, when I was a mere 2 seconds away from badinga in1st, I misjudged one of the corners just before the airpin and went over the rail, having to respawn, ending up around 14s away from 1st and 8s away from 2nd. Last lap was really awsome, and being able to beat mulder on the final stretch using the top speed advantage of the rapid GT was a very bitter sweet 2nd place... I trully had a lot of fun doing that. Thank you everyone!
