Saying "press cross" is just so.... clunky. "Circle", "triangle" and "square" feel natural, but "cross" sounds so weird... Same as "oh" would be really weird to use instead of "circle". Languages and speech work in mysterious ways I guess. Simple as that. (the 2 comments shown in the article were priceless, especially: "Anyone that calls it a "cross button" is clearly an undercover cop.")
