We were sat on the sofa having a cuppa this morning and suddenly got a strong smell of smoke. Then noticed a big cloud of smoke blowing across the garden. Thinking some inconsiderate neighbour had started a bonfire, I went upstairs to shut windows.

It turned out a neighbour’s garage was on fire! Luckily all people involved got out safely (all elderly) and the fire service got there pretty quickly in large numbers.

It’s not the best car I’ve ever driven, but it does what it needs to do. I do like the look and sound of the Abarth although I know someone who bought a new one a couple of years ago and had had no end of trouble. Like monthly breakdowns!

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Still early but I dusted off the bike to use it for my daily commute.

Avoiding the tramway for now. Good thing it's almost summer.

Finished up some work with a new path and less lawn to mow. And fired up the grill for the first time this year.

Well, 3 years of it all sat in the understairs cupboard and me now being on furlough has finally given me plenty of time to give this a go.

I spent a while cleaning all the dirt and muck off with a scraper and wire brush.
Then used a table saw to cut everything to size and it’s all held together with dowel joints.
It’s a good size at 173cm x 73cm and weighs an absolute ton!
I’ve got a chunky black wooden base for it to sit on.

I've sanded it down to get the remaining dirt and old varnish off to reveal the wood grain. I mainly did it by hand as I didn't want to lose too much character from the surfaces.

I've used a bit of linseed oil I had in the garage on a scrap piece and its gone very dark.

Would danish oil give the same result or would it be lighter?

I'm thinking waxing it would give a lighter finish.

It started off as an L shaped floor duct cover.

Looks great! Is it going to be a table/desk?

I started off using danish oil on my (ash) record player stand and it went a lot darker than I was expecting so I sanded it back and went for a colourless wax instead as I wanted to keep the original colour as much as possible. I'm not sure what the difference in colour between Danish/Linseed oil is though.

Edit to add a pic of the Danish oil -
